And you thought rudder pedals were controversial! Here is Fred with some folks who flew into Sun n Fun '92 in this taildragger Ercoupe. This is the only one I  have ever seen. I don't know what landing it was like, or precisely how it was steered on the ground, but this was one coupe that you can be pretty sure had rudder pedals! It looks like a baby Swift from the front.

I'll paste more information as I receive it about this unusual configuration. Here's a few comments from people who've wrote in so far (Rich is correct - the gear has been turned around backwards):

The owners with Mr. Fred Weick (center), the designer of the Ercoupe.

Artie:

Not sure about the particulars on it, but I saw (and sat in) an Ercoupe taildragger based in Eagle River, Wisconsin. The guy that owns it had repositioned the landing gear forward, and had installed a 160hp engine in the thing! Said if flies like a son of a gun. To me, it looked like a chipmunk on steroids with two tails.
To be honest, it made me wonder why he would do that to an already great airplane...but to each his own I guess.

Looks like the main gear has been moved to the front of the spar and put on backwards.

Hey Artie,

Egads! What have they done to the poor thing!? It looks like it's got two broken legs. No babe magnet for you!
