Awesome web site , I have been practicing the incredible privilege of Private Pilot for over two Years and have logged a majority of my time in various Cessna single engine aircraft . I've over the last two weeks developed an infatuation with the ercoupe . I've done a lot of research and the more I read , the more I want one . One of the finer things I find about flying is discussion among Pilots and great conversation starters , what better than an Ercoupe ? I look very forward in the near future to being the proud owner of one , I'll keep everyone posted . Safe and Happy Flying !! pilot29902@yahoo.com

I loved your site and enjoyed learning more about the history especially its military history. I owned a ercoupe for about three years which had navy markings with a c90 engine that flew about as fast as a Cessna 150. My friend and I who flew that 150 would fly formation cross country from Carney OK to Ponca City Ok for Hamburgers. This Airplane has such great visibility and is so easy to fly. I soloed with one hour of instruction in it. Eventually racked up about 400 hours in the plane. My coupe had rudder petals, which made the coupe even more crosswind capable-crabbing on approach till nearly ready, then rudder adjustment and landing straight ahead wings level, or you could land crab style , or wing low. My wife loved this airplane too and with absolutely no prior flying experience could fly it straight and level with the best of them. I cry when I think that I sold the plane and now am coupeless, a miserable condition that is hopeless. I want my coupe back! Sincerely Michael Sapp @ msapp@pisp.net

Hey Art, We agree with your love of Ercoupes! Please add the 2004 E.O.C. National Flying Convention, on June 17th thru 20th, at Knoxville, Iowa to your events calendar. Registration info., pictures, airport info., contributors, etc. can be found under 2004 Conv. at www.ercoupe.org and will be updated regularly between now and June. We should be adding an events and forums schedule between April 1st and April 15th and updating it as necessary also. Hope you can make it! Jack Arthur, and J.M.(Mike) Abrahams Co-chairmen

Great web site! We (Dayton Eagles Flying Club) owned 3789H a 1949 85HP Modified Continental Engine, 415-CD Ercoupe during 1963 to 1967 in Dayton, Ohio. Great little airplane. Flew out of Dayton (OH) Municipal Airport with commercial jet aircraft patterns hot and heavy. Be careful making mid-field take offs behind departing 707.s ... wing tip vortex can be very exciting when at low altitude and calm winds. Control tower always made favorable comments on this beautiful airplane. egilley@mchsi.com in Gulf Breeze, Florida 22 March 2004

YOUR WEB SITE IS NICELY DONE. THE ERCOUPE IS NOT ONLY A HANDSOME DESIGN, BUT A REAL ENGINEERING ACCOMPLISHMENT. I NEARLY BOUGHT AN ALON BACK IN THE EARLY '60'S. I STILL REGRET NOT DOING IT. I BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A FOUR PLACE PROTOTYPE BUILT AT ONE TIME. IF SO I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ABOUT IT OR SEE A PICTURE. SOMEONE OUGHT TO PUT THIS BIRD BACK INTO PRODUCTION WITH MORE HORSEPOWER AND MAKE IT FOR FOUR SOULS, AND RETRACTABLE GEAR.

Thanks for bringing back many pleasant memories. I soloed in Ercoupe 415C NC3165H in September 1945, just after my 16th birthday. Had to give up dreams of a flying career due to college and family expenses, but did spend several years with an aerial mapping company (Aero Service Corp,. Philadelphia) but always in a ground job. A great website, and really appreciated by those of us who never owned their own Ercoupe. Still enjoy seeing one on rare occasions. Bob Freer, rkfreer@aol.com

First off, I am a novice on this computer thing. I am only 63 and vowed never to use one. I am a prospective coupe owner. Am looking at a 58 Forney, With a corroded left wing and found this link while looking for one. My original reason for thinking of a coupe was the prices. After doing a little research I am very much impressed. It is neat that there is so much support out there for a guy like me that has only flown Cessna and piper, to be able to research and ask dumb questions about an airplane that has gone unnoticed all my flying life. I thank all of you ercoupe groups for the information and support. Best wishes Tom Foster Spokane Wa.

Henry Berliner was my maternal grandfather. I remember going to the factory on a Saturday when I was five years old, for my first ride in the Ercoupe prototype. My grandfather piloted, and I sat on my father's lap in the passenger seat. We were just about to take off (on the factory strip) when someone in another plane landed on top of us and clipped the tail. That was the end of my first "flight". We lived in Washington, D.C, and summered on the Delaware coast. More than once, my father and grandfather would arrive by plane (Ercoupe, of course), with my grandfather piloting. By the time I finally got to ride in it, at age fourteen, my grandfather had stopped piloting, and I was taken up by Philippe Aukenthaler, who, only a year or so later, crashed it into some telephone wires in a rainstorm. He totaled the plane, but fortunately walked away with everything else except his teeth. I am so delighted to find that my grandfather's plane is still remembered and appreciated. I had no idea anyone was still flying it. Thank you, Juliet Cunningham Oliva

Hello. Just yesterday, a fellow employee here at Baltimore County Traffic Signal Shop told me about an aircraft at a nearby private field in Glen Arm. It is an old Aircoupe, with torn fabric, and has not been flown for about 15 years. I visited your site to learn about Aircoupes. I knew from my Dad that the aircraft were originally built in College Park, Maryland, by Engineering Research. I am going to take another look at that aircoupe. Many thanks for all of the information. David A. Kraus, Perry Hall, MD.

I am in the process of buying a 46 415C/75hp and have been researching the flying characteristics of the Ercoupe. The one I will be buying is serial #229 and needs some work in the wing walk areas on both sides. I figure to do most of the dumb work myself and leave the smart work for the real mechanic. I sure would like to up the useful load somehow so I could take my son along. We are both 240#s so there isn't much left for a picnic basket or gas. It is neat to be able to find out so many things on your site. Keep it up! Thanks, Tom . tomstoy@comcast.net

A great job on this site! I enjoyed it a great deal. I am currently looking for a 415C or 415CD that meets the new sport category specs. Just looking, can't buy it yet! Your site has helped me make up my mind that this aircraft is the one that I want. I have always wondered where the JATO PAC came from, now I know! Thank You!

I enjoyed visiting your website. Although I've flown in many different planes (including homebuilts and ultralights), I will always remember my first ride in an Ercoupe when I was about 14. Eventually, I would like to own one myself. I liked the in-flight pictures and would like to see more. Jeff Oliver Kerman, CA

very interesting reading especially so, as I had no idea what a ercoupe 415 looked like or indeed the spec was. I normally fly robins.

Great site. I fell in love with the Ercoupe at age 20 and always thought I would have one. 20 years later my Dad moves close and announces he is buying a 67 Ercoupe. What a great airplane, I am in love at 40. Thanks for the great site . Greg Howard in Oklahoma

Great site! Really enjoyed the pics of Fred. I was forced out of flying 14 years ago for medical reasons. I owned a Piper Sennaca twin and always flew IFR. When I left flying I always said if I got to return it would be low, slow, and simple. The new sport pilot license is letting me back in and I have purchased a C model Ercoupe N99891. It had a ground up restoration by Francis DeFord 25 hours ago and is a no radio, no gyro ceconite winged Ercoupe. I am thrilled to be returning to fly the way flying was meant to be done, looking out the windows instead of at the panel. Did the first steep banked turn of my life not looking at the panel the last time up. What a thrill to be able to finally own the plane I have always loved the looks of. Thanks for the work of this site. bob

Just ran across your site. It is great, and contains a lot of information on the Ercoupe. I first saw one parked beside alt U.S. 90 in Escambia County, Florida in about 1947/48. The owner would use the highway for his airstrip. He was building a small house for himself there and left the aircraft parked there unattended many times. A friend and I used to look it over pretty closely. We both thought that it was a really neat little plane. Sometime later, the owner died of a heart attack while working on his house. I never knew what happened to the plane, but it disappeared after sitting there for several months. I have loved airplanes since I was a child, and if I could ever be able to learn to fly, I think that the Ercoupe is the plane I would want to own. Thanks for your great site.

Great web site, I have always wanted to learn to fly but, life got in the way. Now the family is grown but I have medicals that would prevent my getting a private ticket. Thank all of you who worked so hard to get the sport pilot rating and aircraft certification passed. I have loved the coupe since riding in one with a college friend in the early 60's. I hope that the coupe fits into this class so I can finally get in the club (the many who are proud to be ercoupe pilots) and find my own little bird. Does anyone know which models are compatible with the new Light-Sport Aircraft certificate?

I just reviewed your website--and it is GREAT !! I'm an old WW2 and Korean vet (Navigator/Bombardier) who never got a pilot license but have been a flying enthusiast for these many years--I recently joined an EAA chapter here in FT Lauderdale FL and one of our members has an Aircoupe a 1946,I believe--He appears to so enjoy it I'm so jealous I could spit---Now with the new Sport Pilot category and having a drivers license is enough to fly these small low horsepower planes makes me want to go AGAIN--If anyone knows of a flyable Aircoupe for sale let me know and thanks for a great website--SY Gaynes---- syjac@sbcglobal.net

Really nice site. I just bought an ercoupe 415-c with a O-75 engine and less than 800 total hours. It was completely dis-assembled when I got it and hanging in a barn for 25 years. When I say completely I mean completely. Surface corrosion is so minor you can brush it off with your fingers, I think. I am really excited about the plane. I have all logs. It is going to be quite a project getting it back together but all the parts are there. I am not a pilot but I love it already.

I have liked this airplane ever since I was a teenager when I had my first flight in one. I became a mult-engine IFR pilot Helicopter pilot for a career. I flew for 20 years and am now out of it but I would like to get back in the sky in some capacity. The ercoupe to me would be the weapon of choice. Nothing will be a helicopter with the doors off crusing down a river bed but I think I could get used to the coupe. Do you know of any that are for sale or could you direct me to some sites where they can be had. A vary nice web site and very informative.
